Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) 

The Central Institute of Indian Languages was set up in 1969 with the purpose of establishing and synchronizing the advancement in Indian Languages. It also maintains the unity of Indian languages through scientific studies and contributes towards mutual enrichment of languages. There are seven regional centers of CIIL operating in different linguistic zones of the country and these centers strive to meet the demand for trained teachers, implement the three-language formula and provide guarantee to linguistic minorities. The Central Institute of Indian Languages under its Modern Indian Languages Scheme offers awards, fellowships, scholarships and Faculty Improvement Program (FIP). Its main objectives are as follows.

It gives advices and assistants to the Central Government of India and different States’ Governments of India in the issues related to languages. 

It helps in content creation in different Indian languages. 

It protects and documents in Minor, Minority and Tribal languages.

It teaches 15 Indian languages to non native learners.

About Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) 

The Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages being a National Institute provides higher education in English and other Foreign Languages in India. It controls the functions of Educational Media Research Centre, CIEFL (Hyderabad) which came into being in 1985.

The institute has the purpose to make quality higher education accessible to students of small and remote places utilizing the rapidly expanding television network in the country. It is the only university in India devoted to learning and teaching of English and other foreign languages.  It offers courses in English, Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish. There are three units of CIEFL located at Hyderabad, Lucknow and Shillong.

About Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET)

The Central Institute of Educational Technology has the aim to provide and promote educational technology mainly at the school level and it has been set up in 1984 as an integral part of National Council of Educational Research & Training (NCERT). 

The organization has the status of an autonomous body working under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The institute universalizes the primary education by designing, developing, and publishing alternative learning systems besides addressing various educational problems at micro and macro levels. 

The functions of the Institute are as follows. 

It designs the media software, films, graphics and other programmes to intensify the curricular and the co-curricular activities at the school level. 

It generates competencies in the development and use of educational software materials through training in areas such as script development, media production, media communication, media research, technical operations, setting up studios, repair and maintenance of equipments etc. 

It also trains the faculties of Institutes of Advanced Study in Education or Colleges of Teacher Education and District Institutes of Education and Training in the use of Educational and Training in the use of Educational Technology 

It carries out research appraisal and monitoring of the systems, programmes and materials to increase their effectiveness. 

It documents and disseminates the information, materials and media programmes for better use in the field of Educational Technology. 

It directs and coordinates the academic and technical programmes and activities of the SIET set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Government of India in six states of India.

About Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering (CIAE)

The central Institute of Agricultural Engineering conducts R & D work to facilitate agricultural mechanism, conserve soil and water through land development and efficient irrigation and drainage equipment, post-harvest and value addition of agro waste produce and efficient utilization of renewable and non-renewable sources of energy in agriculture, information dissemination in technology transfer through training, demonstration and prototype production and supply.

Initially, it conducted the research in farm machinery, post harvest technology and energy utilization in agriculture. Later, Agro Industrial Extension and Instrumentation and Irrigation and Drainage Engineering were included in its research programmes. The Institute is supported by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), state and central universities and many organizations in the field of agriculture. It has collaborative programmes with many foreign organizations such as AIT, CIRAD, FAO, IDRC, IRRI, RNAEM, ESCAP, SAREC, UNIDO and USAID. The Institute has the following objectives.

  • Develop hardware and technology in cooperation with other ICAR Institutes in the area of crops, horticulture, aquaculture and animal husbandry for production and processing 
  • Provide leadership and co-ordinate network of research withstate agricultural universities for generating location-specific technologies 
  • Provide input to ICAR on policy intervention with respect to agricultural mechanization, energy management in agriculture, irrigation and drainage and post harvest technology
  • Provide consultancy and undertake sponsored research from industry and other organization 
  • Act as a repository of information on agricultural engineering 
  • Act as a Center for training in research methodologies and technology and conduct post graduate education programme leading to Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Agricultural Engineering
  • Collaborate with relevant national and international agencies in achieving the above objectives.

About Central Hindi Directorate (CHD) 

The Central Hindi Directorate established by Government of India in March 1960 functions as a subordinate office of the Ministry of Education Government of India. It has a number of schemes for the encouragement and expansion of Hindi languages. 

There is a Correspondence Courses department which carries the responsibility of Hindi language teaching even to non – Hindi speaking Indians and foreigners. The Audio Video cassettes and CDs in Hindi language teaching are also published by this Directorate apart from many other publications such as the foreign language dictionary, the bilingual or the trilingual or the new dictionaries, the Bhasha, the Varshiki and the Sahitya Mala. It also organizes exhibitions and distributes free Hindi books on certain criteria. It has also published the Hindi-Indonesian dictionary and conversational guides on the Hindi-Tamil, the Malayalam-Hindi, the Bangla-Hindi, and the Hindi-Czech. 

The Directorate has sponsors many prizes and awards to Hindi authors, besides making people incline towards the learning of Hindi language. There are two schemes with respect to the grants to the voluntary Hindi organizations for the promotion and development of Hindi. The Department of Correspondence Courses of the Directorate offers the following courses through correspondence.
